Petono A Petone B defaulted, Karori 3 Hu| Mai 3 P. and T 2 Hcrcawa 0 Pakcha....; 4 Artillery D The first series of games ill the second round was played yesterday afternoon in first-class weather, the grounds playing fast. The general play, however, was nut up to standard. The Karori team had illfortune in only making a draw with 11 ui Mai. The game was a hard one, and at times a little rough. One of the llui Mai players had to retire with a bad cut over tlio eye. KARORI—HUI MAI. The match was played at ICarori. The homo team started by carrying play into llui Mai's quarters, and H. Cole, by fast following up, notched a goal. Play for somo time after was in mid-field, anjl then Cooper (Karori) drove the ball hard up the ground, and 11. Colo carried it into tlio circle, and again scored for Karori. Hui Mai now had a chance to score, and Brown notched a goal. Shortly after Low scored for Karori, and the spell ended: Karori,-3; Hui Mai, Is.

For the first ten minutes in the second Mi ell Hui Mai had hard v.ovk to keep Karori from scoring. Bey (Hui Mai) got an opening, and carricd the ball from his <ro-n twenty-five and scored. The performance was followed shortly by Hoy, who scored through a. mishit of Neeciham's. For the remainder of the spell Karori had all the best of the play, having no fewer than 9 shots at goal. They, could not find the net, however, and the game ended three all. For Karori. Needham, H. Cole. Henderson, and Gnyford played well, while for Hui Mai M'Keovor, at centre-half, did great work. Of the others, Stevens, Lippctt, Brown and Bey were tlio best. Mr. C'usack was referee.

Mr. Smith was referee. SHIELD MATCH-DUAL REFEREES. Tho Hawke's Bay representatives wil, arrive by this evening's express train, and will stay at the Occidental Hotel. On Friday they will journey across to Day's Bay for practice, and will stay thero till" after Saturday's match. Messrs. Gendall and Carver have been appointed referees, and this-is the first occasion on which two referees have controlled a Shield match. Steamers leave on Saturday for Day's Bay nt 1.15 p.m., 2 p.m., and 2.30 p.m., and tho match will commence at 3 o'clock. All senior games are off, but junior and third-class matches will bo played' as usual. PALMERSTON HOCKEY. (By Metraih.-Spccial Correspondent.! Palmerston, Julv 19.
