TREE-PLANTING OPERATIONS.

Tho groyes and tree plantations of Wellington have not gained any very numerous additions as a result of the celebration of Arbor Day this year. It was indicated yesterday that there would be no official celebration of the tree-planting holiday by the City Council, and as a result the good work was left for tho most part tu school-children, and to private individuals. Trees were planted in tho grounds adjacent .to a number of city and suburban schools. At tho South Wellington School operations were carried out on a large scale, and' numbers of tress, most of them native, were planted out by busy bands of boys and girls. The beautiful weather that reigned . throughout the day made conditions iY.TO'i-I'lpnwnt farmworkers out of doors, and the tree-planters in various parts of tho city and suburbs thoroughly, cnjoyed their labours. Tree-planting was carried out at Mount Cook Boys' School. At nino o'clock in the. morning, the headmaster (Mr. Barry) and male assistants, aided by about 100 boys, got to work, and planted a largo number of trees. Tho boys supplied tho trees, alul were engaged in planting operations until 1 p.m. llr. Danks and" Mr. Murphy (chairman and secretary of tho School Committee) wore also present.
