PUBLIC INCONVENIENCE.
FAST HORSES AND SLOW TRAINS. Race trains do not, at the best of times, afford very comfortable travelling, but yesterday's race trains between the city and Trentham would have tried the patience of the most easily-satisfied sporting folk that 'ever existed. To begin with, passengers at Tc Aro had to almost fight their way on to the trains through one narrow race, while two officials blocked the way, and insisted on clipping every traveller's ticket before one could gain admission. Tho outgoing arrangements were annoying in the extreme. The trains on tho homeward journey established a new record for slow travelling. That timed to leave at 4.35 was la to in starting, and, in consequence of ft long delay at Hay wards, and various delays at qther stations, completed the distance in an hour and twenty minutes. Tho 4.55 p.m. train was also a few minutes late ,in leaving, and, after proceeding a few miles on its way, the engine broke down. Another engine having been ordered from Lower Ilutt, the train reached tho city at 7.20 p.m., and discharged its hundreds-, of irritated passengers without a word of apology.
