THE PUBLIC SERVICE SUPER. ANNUATION.
A meeting of (he I'ulilic Service Superannuation lioanl was held on Thursday last, July The f|iiestioii of tho refusal of the Audit Department to allow the broken service of ii constable, on computing his retiring allowance, was considered, and it was decided to obtain thft opinion of tho Solicitor-General on tho position of the board under Section :S3 of the Act. An application was received from the Defence Department for certain New Zealand cadels who had entered the Australian Military College to be allowed to join tho superannuation fund, and it was decided that the board had no power to allow them to join. The opinion of the Solicitor-General was laid before the board, as to Section 2(i of tho Appropriation-Act of last session, fydativo to a widow's claim to the compensation due to her husband if ho died whilo still in tho service. Various applications were received from heads of Departments as to officers who should have joined the fund, and these were all sanctioned. An application was received from a constable who bad retiral on superannuation, for leave to count his service as clerk of the court, but the board decided that, as no contributions had been paid on tho money which he had re-1 ceived for such service, his tlaim could not, bo sanctioned. A report was laid before tho board on tho method of obtaining medical roports on officers to be retired as medically unfit, and it was decided that tho plan suggested in the report bo adopted. The committeo set up to draft amendments to tho regulations brought up thoir report, and the board approved the suggested amendments subject to revision by the Crown Law Office. Tiie secretary reported that tho amount in tho hands of the Public Trustee to tho credit of tho fund on June 30, 1911, was <£'304,581 lis. lOd. The totals of tho retiring allowances and annuities to widows and children passed by the board were as follow:— Seventeen ordinary retiring allowances, aggregating .£2183 2s. Bd.; threo medically unfit allowances, aggregating .£127 17s. 4d.; four widows and six children, .£l5O.
