July 10, 10.10 p.m.) Paris, July 10. 1 A daring attempt has been made, to ■ explode the submarine, mines defending the, naval stronghold at Toulon, on the Mediterranean. A quartermaster noticed that the door 1 of a chamber containing the electric wires ' used in firing the mines was open. Ho tried to enter, but was unable to do so. When the door was forced two men rushed out, and overthrew the quartermaster. A fierce strugglo with tlio sentries followed, and tlio men finally escaped to a motor-car, which was.in waiting. The motor-car contained a closelyveiled woman. It vanished in the, darkness as soon as the men rushed into it. The sentries are to be severoly punish- I ed for not usiug their rifles.
