Mr. J. A. S. Reynolds, stationmaster at To Aro Railway Station, who is retiring from active service after 40 years in harness, was the guest of the evening at a very enjoyable "social," which was held at the Railway Officers' Hall, ■ Waterloo Quay, on Saturday evening. Musical and other items enlivened the social hours, and during an interval in the festivities Mr. C. Gallagher, on behalf of tho gathering, presented Mr. Reynolds with a handsomely-designed and very comfort-able-looking easy-chair, and also a silvermounted pipe, most appropriate presents for one about to enjoy in honoured relaxation the autumn of his life. In making the presentation, Mr. Gallagher referred to the goodwill and esteem in Which Mr. Reynolds was regarded by all who had official relations with him. In reply, Mr. Reynolds gave' an interesting sketch of his career as a railway officer, commencing at the bottom of the ladder and embracing nearly every branch of the service. Dated "1910," there has just been published tho "Official Record of the New Zealand International Exhibition" of 190 G. The preface shows tliat tho Record was sent to the Government for printing nearly four years ago. Coming at this date, the book, which is large and very comprehensive, is certain to be widely unread, BUYING A PIANO.
