ASSISTANT-DIRECTOR OF ARTILLERY.

Captain E. A. Steele, of the 68tli Royal Field Artillery, has been appointed Assistant-Director and Instructor of Artillery on tho New Zealand General Staff, under Lieutenant-Colonel G. N. Johnston, Director of Ordnance. Captain Steel has passed the first .year's course at (ho Ordnance College. Captain J. D. Grant, V.C., Bth Ghurka. Rifles (Indian Army), has be<m appointed, staff officer with the New Zealand Lorce*. Captain Grant has passed tho Staff College course, and was attached for duty to the brigade staff of tho Bareilly Brigade, 7th (Mecrut) Division of tho North-! em Army of India. Tho non-commissioned officers who recently arrived from England have Jieea posted ns follow:—Corporal V. H. Norris (Royal Horse Guards), Assistant to Brigade, sergeant-major instructor to Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry; Sergeant V. C. S. Beer (2nd Dragoon Guards), ser-geant-major instructor 3rd (Auckland) Mounted Rifles; Sergeant C. L. Nicholls (sth Lancers), sergeant-major instructor Ctli (Manawntu) Mounted Rifles; Sergeant S. Wood (3rd Dragoon Guards), servant-major instructor sth Mounted Rifles (Otago Hussars); Sergeant J. E. Cartridge (3rd Battalion Worcester Regiment), posted to Auckland district as sergeant-major instructor; sergeant J. Shortal (4th Battalion Leinster Regiment), posted to Otago district as eer-geant-major instructor. ■ Staff Sergeant-Major Instructor Salt hae been transferred from the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry to the Nelson Mount, ed Rifles, and Staff Sergeant-Major C. G. Davis from the Auckland Mounted Rifles (o tho North Auckland Mounted Rifles, Whangarei. Lieutenant Rassam, of the headquarters staff, has been promoted captain.
