A peculiar position hus cropped'up in regard to the Kpringvale Road, just outsine tho borough, concerning the width of which tho Waitotara County Council, under whos? jurisdiction it is, has been put to a great deal of trouble. A search of titles discloses the fact that in tho original grant of land adjoining, a chain wide road was provided for, but (ho persons who bought from the original owner conveyed, it is staled, only half a chain strip to tin , , public body administering the road. As lime went on, tho land was subdivided, ami further owners bought and fixed their fences on Hie assumption that the road was only half a chain wide. Tho council, however, is determined to havo the mistake (dating back about 40 years) rectified, and has ordered a survey of the proper roiid-line, with the view or compelling owners to shift their fences bae-k.
