CORPORATION STAFF.

ANNUAL MEETING AND SMOKECONCEitT., - : . The City Corporation Staff Social Club held its annual meeting and smoke-con-eert in tho Concert 'Chamber of the Town' Hall last evening, Mr. P. M'Cqll presiding. Ulembers of the staff attended in good numbers and apologies for absence were received from several councillors, from Hie Town Clerk (Mr. J. R. Palmer), and from other members of the corporation stafl. The committee, in their annual report, stated (hat, although tho council's Finance Committee had unanimously agfreed that something should be done for the club, it had not yet succeeded in obtaining a suitable room for permanent quarters. A club-room and the hearty support of all members were necessary if the club was to remain in existence. Tho social functions organised during the year had all proved splendidly successful. The committee thanked the council for granting tho use of the Town Hall, tho Mayor for a donation, and various firms that donated trophies for the picnic sports. .The balance-sheet showed a good credit balance, though outstanding subscriptions amount to J820.'.- . ' Tho rtport and . balance-sheet were adopted. • . A motion, by Mr. Watson,- that tho annual ■ staff ■ ball be organised apart.-en-tirely from functions promoted by the club, was defeated by a largo majority. The • following were elected' a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs. 1 Wat-> son, Leah, Crombie, Grant, .Swinburne, -M'liean, Beatty, O'Brien, -Hav, and Lauchlau. ■Votes of thanks were passed, to. Messrs. W. 0. Bock (secretary), and J. Ji: Stubbs (treasurer) for' services : rendered during tho past twelve months. The attendance was augmented when a start was made upon t'lift" festive portion ,ot the programme, among the new arrivals being Councillors Hiudmarsh and Frost and the City Engineer (Mr. W. H Morton) Songs were contributed by Messrs. J. B. MTarlane, Rowlands, W. IL. Morton, C. Macintosh, J. B. Paton, Luke, Duff, Bridge,, Stevenson. L, Nortan Taylor, Howe, Benge, and' Bock. Mr. H. Liardet gave a sleight of hand entertainment. Instrumental items were given by Messrs. M'Laughlan, Lever, K Farmer,- Davie, and Herr Ze'niseh.
