' 4 (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.! Palmerston North, July 2. The takings at the performance of the Sheffield Choir here on Friday amounted to .£SBB 17s. Gd., tho number attending being just on 2000. Tho vital statistics for Palmerston North for June are: Births, 40; deaths, 8; marriages, 15. During the past quarter 55 old age pensions were granted at Palmerston, and two applications refused. For the first six months of the present year, ending yesterday, there were eight bankruptcies recorded as compared with sixteen for the first six months of 1910. The hospital statistics for the month «ro as follows:—Patients in the hospital on June 1, 35; admitted during tho month, 54; died, 7; discharged, 42; at present in hospital, 40. Tho returns of business transacted at the Palmerston Magistrate's Court for tho past three months are as follow:—Number of sittings presided over by a stipendiary magistrate, 39; presided over by justices, 28. On the civil side of the Court tho .number of cases heard was, 218; amount sued for, <£3G16 lis. lid.; amount recovered, .£1737 6s. 7d.; number of applications heard in Court or Chambers, 23; plaints entered, 300; distress warrants issued, 27; judgment summonses issued, 53; orders made on judgment summonses, 14; warrants of committal issued, 2; amount of civil fees paid in stamps. .£176 195.; amount of licensing fees, paid in stamps. .614 7s. The criminal returns show that the number of males before the Court was 319, and females 21. The number of offences were:—By males, 253; by females, 26; criminal fees paid in stamps, J320 135.; amount paid in criminal fines, .£9B Bs. Mrs. E. \V. Collins, of Bangitikei Line, died yesterday after a rather prolonged illness, aged 45. Deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brogden, very old and higb.lv respected settlers of this district, and she leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. There is a family of four sons and two daughters. ■
