MASTERTON NOTES.

The' Nireaha C'hee.-e Company has paid out JE1832 2s. 3d., .made up. of an advance of Bd. per lb. on butter-fat supplied from May 4 to.Juno 10 (X' 373 lis. 3d.) and Id. lb. on air butter-fat supplied through the season.. The factory closcd down on Juno 10. Scarcely a tradesman is out of work in Masterton at tha present, time, but a large number of unskilled labourers are without occupation. The Mt. Holdsworth Track Committee is applying to tho Tourist Department for a further grant for. improving the track and putting a floor in the mountain house. Tha local offico of the' Labour Department has received several applications for workers' dwelling. The'majority of applicants have sections of their own on which they , wish to build, but tho Act. provides that the buildings must he erccted on blocks, on not less than six applications being forwarded to headquarters for information. Mr. C. A. Poulsen, of the literary statf of the "Wairarapa Daily Time.;," has received an appointment on the "Manawatu Standard." Tho death occurred at St. Bridu's Convent yesterday of Sister Mary Michael, after a lingering illness. Deceased has been in .Masterton for ten years. A meeting of dairy farmers is to bo hold here nil July 5. for the purpose of discussins the fiiiestini of cow-testing. Mr. W. M. Singleton, of the Agricultural Department, will be present.
