■ RUGBY FOOTBALL. THE WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. COMMITTEE MEETS. A meeting or the Management Committoo of tho Wellington Rugby Union was held last night. There were present: Messrs. S. Drown (chairman), \V. lerrj;, E. 0. Hales, J. Burns, J. Sweeney, L. Little, W. Mardham, and W. 1. Hornjg. ! A letter from tlie Jlawke's liny Kugby Union asked if the Wellington Union intended that its representative team should play a return match in Napier this season.—lt was decided to reply m tho negaT." Murphy, who lias been custodian of the Athletic Park for 11 years, forwarded his resignation as' from September .8 next.—Accepted. . The New Zealand Union wrote stating that as tho fixtures far the North and South Island country teams could not now be altered, it would I "C f |Uiro the Athletic Park on August 9 (Wellington v. North Island Country) and Amnist 1- ' (North Island Country v. South Island Country), as per the agreement with the Wellington Union.—As tho union .had no option but to grant the dates, it was resolved to writo to Mr. .Parata, secretary of tho Maori team, informing him that a' Saturday could not be granted for a match Wellington v. Maori team, and suggesting that a match should bo arranged for any Wednesday excepting August 9. Tho sub-committee which had been appointed to confer with the Exhibition Sports Committee in regard to a programme for Rugby Night at tho Exhibition, reported that tho following events had- been arranged:—Tug-of-war, teams of eight, for senior players; relay race, teams of four; 220 yards, 50 yards handicap.—lt was docidcd to call for nominations on Monday week. After that date extra events may be added to the programme if it is considered that there will be sufficient' time to decide them during the evening.
