CI. Wilson). Nurses, Mr. Wilson stated, sometimes had to travel as far as from Inlmerston Nnrl'h to Wanganni, or from New Plymouth to Pnlmerston North, in order to undergo examination. Hospitals in this way sometimes lost the services of nurses for several days on end, and the nurses themselves wero put to considerable inconvenience and expense. As a remedy, Mr. Wilson proposed that in future the State nursing examination should be conducted at the hospital where the nurses concerned wero in residence. Miss M'Lean (Assistant-Inspector of Hospitals) explained that it would bo impracticable to hold examinations at each hospital. At present examination centres were so selected as to meet tho convenience of tho. greatest possible number of candidates. It was only in this way that a uniform examination could be secured. Miss Jl'Lean mentioned a number of circumstances tending to mitigate the inconvenience caused to nurses. Mr. Wilson eventually withdrew his proposal.
