His Excellency the Governor will have a busy day to-day. At , 10.30 a.m. he is to attend a meeting of tho Executive Council; nt 11 a.m. he will attend the opening of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board's Conference; at .') p.m. he will confer the decrees in connection with the. Victoria College capping ceremony; and in the evening will entertain some 800 guests at tho Coronation ball at Government House. On Wednesday his Excellency, will be waited on by a Methodist delega-s tion, and on Thursday he will entertain tho delegates to tho Hospital Boards' Conference at tea at Government House. Ho will be present at the opening concert of the Sheffield Choir in the evening. His Excellency and Lady Islington will attend the Garrison Officers', ball on Friday evening, and on Saturday they will show hospitality to the .Sheffield Choir by entertaining them at afternoon tea. On Tuesday evening next his Excellency will attend -the winter show at Hawcra. To-day the Acting-Prime Minister Trill be in Dunedin; the Hon. J. A. Millar, tho Hon. D. Buddo, tho Hon. R. M'Kenzie, and the Hon. A. T. Ngata in Wellington; the Hon. T. Mackenzie at Danuevirke; and thaJlpn. G. Fowlds ill Taranaki. Mr. A. L- Hcnlman, M.P., has received invitations fo address public meetings on political matters in various parts of the South Island. He will probably pay a visit to Otago and Southland at an early date. , The Hon. G. Fowlds is expected to return to Wellington on Friday next. Hβ will spend a few days in tho Taranaki district. The Hon. T. Mackenzie left yesterday for Dairaevirke. Ho will spcud a few days in the electorate of Mr. C. Hall, M.1 , . His Honour Sir Joshua Williams arrived in town yesterday morning from tho south. His. Honour Mr. Justice Edwards arrived from the north on Saturday. Both Judges will remain here over tho sittings of the Court of Appeal. > The death is announced of ex-Inspeotor Buckley, of tho New Zealand police force. Deceased, after serving jn tho Canterbury provincial police, reached the rank of inspector at Invercargill. lie retired about twenty years ago, and had sinco lollowed farming pursuits at Hook, South Canterbury, where his death occurred. ■ The New Zealand Law Society and the Wellington District Law Society telegraphed to Sir Joshua Williams congratulating him upon receiving tho honour of knighthood. Mr. Douglas Redman, examiner to the Associated Board of the K.A.M. and R.C.M., London, will conduct the board's practical examinations throughout New Zealand this year. Ho is due in Wellington early in October.
Mr. M. J. Mack, general secretary of tho Amalgamated Society of. Railway Servants, was unnoiimously accepted as tho Labour party's candidate for Parnell at the general elections, at' a meeting of the Auckland branch of the Labour parry.
Mr. Frank Wilson, of Napier, ex-presi-dent of the Students' Association of Victoria College, and Messrs. Brodie and Lyon, with a number of other "old boys," arrived jn town last evening to take part in to-day's capping ceremony.
Mr. Robert C. L. Eeay, a well-known surveyor in tho Auckland district in the early days of the Maori war, died in tho Wairoa Hospital on Saturday morning, aged 72 years.—Press Association.
Mr. C. Bentloy Russell and his mother intend to leave Wellington on Friday, July 7, on a trip to England,
A Press Association message states that as tho result of an accidental discharge of a gun, Theodore Ballance, ton of Mr. A. C. Ballance, schoolmaster at Mongontti, was shot while one of a shooting party at Doubtless Kay. Ho was taken to Mongonui Hospital, but died there. Deceased was about 1!) years of age, and was a cadet at tho Pacific Cable Station, Doubtless Cay. Ho was a nephew of Mr. It. T. Noble-Bcasley, of Austin Street, and a brother of Mr. Arthur Kallance, the well-known baritone vocalist, formerly of tho Wellington Telegraph Office staff, but now on tho operatic stage in England.
Constable G. Doggott, of the local police force, has been transferred to Blenheim.
The Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford) is reported to be making excellent progress towards complete recovery from the effects of his recent operation for appendicitis, but it will be some woeks beforo he is able to resume active duties.
Mr. H. 1?. Elder has been nominated for a further term as representative of Ihe Tfult-Horowhenua district on tho Wellington Education Hoard.
Messrs. R. Quiiiii and 0. Taylor have l>mi nominated for the. vacancy on the Upper Unit Town Board.
Mr. W. G. Talhot, secretary of the Wellinglon Rugby Union, ivlio has been suffering from appendicitis, is now recovering. Ho hopes to be able to resume his duties towards the cad of the week.
