Coronation Day was. stormy and wet. Heavy rain fell on Thursday night, and Friday was dull. All the local (laxmills closed down on Thursday. The shopkeepers kept their holiday on Friday. A football match between Maranui and Whitaunui resulted in the defeat of the latter by a substantial margin, thus reversing the result of (he previous week. The Lawn Tennis Club held a successful "social" and dance on Thursday night. The very wet weather prevented a number of guests attending.
