COMPETITIONS.
GREAT SPECIAL PRIZE LIST. The executive committee, of the New Zealand Competitions Society met at Messrs. Gualter, Dykes, and Co.'s office last evening, Dr. Arnold Izard in the. chair. Tho syllabus was presented in proof form, and was passed for publication after somo minor alterations were made. Gratification was expressed at the promising array of special, prizes which had been donated, and it was gathered from an informal discussion that 'many more would be forthcoming. This list is already a very large and most valuable one, and tho opinion was freely expressed that these prizes would induce entries from oil parts of the Dominion. To place the society on a financial'basis to begin with, it was resolved that special inducements be offered to purchasers of season tickets, which will cntitlo tho holders to admission to any and all of the entertainments and competitions, and within the next few weeks a canvass will be made of the city with that object in view. A special vote of thanks'was passed to Mr. C. N. Baeyertz for tho valuable assistance he had lent in the preparation of the syllabus. Tho hook of tho words is now in course of compilation, and will be available to competitors within the next month. This will contain tho words of every recitation and speech that is set down for competition in tho syllabus. A meeting of ladies is to be convened next week to forward the interest in the coming battle of the arts in the Town Hall.
