WELLINGTON COLLEGE.

» OLD BOYS' DINNER. The Old Boys' Association of the Wellington College held their eighteenth annual dinner on Saturday evening at the Hotel Windsor. Mr. W. W. .Aleck, president of the association, presided, and about 100 Old Boys were present'. In every way it was a successful and pleasant gathering. Mr. W. L. Meek proposed the health of the old school. He referred to the success of the Old Boys of the college in the city and elsewhere. .In this respect he was sorry to know dial' the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P.) was away through illness, and they would wish him a speedy recovery. The pleasantest feeling was entertained for the old school by the Old Boys' Association. They had contributed five guineas towards the ground fund this year, two guineas to the rifle-shooting prize fund, and two guineas to the school prize fund. Mr. J. P. Firth, headmaster of Wellington College, who replied to the toast, said the old school did appreciate the feeling entertained for it by the Old Boys. He had had letters from Old Boys from almost all parts of the world, and the writers invariably referred to the school with the greatest affection. Dr. Cameron proposed "Absent Visitors and Old Boys." Incidentally he recalled that Mr. Bee, once a master of the college (and now headmaster of the Ladies' Methodist College of Melbourne), and Jlr. Ward, now a solicitor of Wellington, had left the college, and it seemed that not sufficient encouragement was given to retain Iho masters in tho profession. Mr. F. n. Tenner responded on behalf of the masters, and gave several interesting reminiscences. Mr. A. liothenberg, on behalf of the Old Boys, spoke of the affection entertained by all Old Boys for their alma mater.

Mr. V. G. nolton spoke to the toast of "College Reminiscences," and Dr. Martin and Mr. A. H. Bennett responded. All throe uenl'lemen had little difficulty in recalling humorous incidents of tho "golden days," whoso recital gave keen enjoyment. There «'fi'o other toasts, and then members of the English Pierrot. Company completed the evonins's programme with a number of delightful items. The earlier portion of the enterlainment vas retributed bv Mc"rs. R. 0. Tilnw. W. W. Cool;. Korman ITales, and If. Eobertson. Mr.jD. Kenny accompanied the singers.
