ST. JOHN'S DEBATING SOCIETY

St. John's Literary and Debating Society met on Friday night, when the subject debated was, "That man cannot stand the stress of modern life." This was affirmed by Mr. R. Kennedy, M.A., LL.M S33onded by Mr. M'Allister, and opposed by Mr. E. K. Lornis, M.A., M.Sc., who was seconded by Mr. R. L. Andrew. There were eleven speeches, and on the motion being put to the meeting the affirmative was uphold by a small majority. The chairman (Dr. Gibb). in summing up, placed Mr. Kennedy lirst, with 87 marks, and Messrs. Loma.i. Andrew, «nd J. Boal next, with 85 marks each.
