A DAY WITH THE HOUNDS.
AT RANGITIKEI LINE. IBy Tffleera'ph.—Special Correspondent.! Palmerston, June 18. Glorious weather prevailed on Saturday afternoon when tho Manawatu Hunt Club held a "meet" at Rangitikei Line. It was tho largest field that has followed tho hounds this season, and there was also a large concourse of spectators, who, as they could get a good view of tho hunt from end to end, thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon's sport. The country was ideal, though the ground was a little slippery owing to tho numbo" of frosts which havo lately been experienced. The drags were laid by Messrs. L. Lumiden and M. M'Ewen, and there were three good guns, tho "kill" taking place at Mr. H. M'Ewen's. Mr. Bruco M'Ewen (master) had tho field well in hand, and Mr. J. Flanagan acted as huntsman during Mr. J. Sweeney's enforced absence from the field owing to accident. He had the assistance of Mr. J. L. Buick as whip. At tho conclusion of tho hunt all present were invited to afternoon tea, laid out on tho lawn at Mr 11. M'Ewen's residence, and dispensed by, the Misses M'Ewen. Mr. D. Bennett subsequently proposed a hearty vote of thanks to tho property owners, and to Mr. M'Ewen and Misses .M'Ewen for their hospitality. Mr. H. D. -Buchanan, in tho course of a few remarks, referred to tho fact that their master had just joined tho Benedicts, and three cheers wero given for Mr. and Mrs. Bruce M'Ewen.
