0 THE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP, CLOSE GAME AT KARORI, Wellington _ 4 Y.M.C.A 3 Karori 4 Wesley 1 Victoria College. 2 United 0 The second round of tlio senior hockey matches was commenced on Saturday. The. results do not niter tho position of theleading teams. WELLINGTON-Y.M.C.A. The match, "Wellington v. Y.M.C.A., was played at Karori, on slippery and rough ground. "Wellington started with a determined attack, but A. l'arton intercepted, and play remained for some limo at half-way. After some uninteresting play M'Dougall secured, and centred, enabling Dunn to score. Y.M.C.A. attacked, and Wellington, conceded a corner, but Robertson, right-wing for Y.M.C.A,, missed a good chance. Play returned to the centre of the Sold, and Parton sent t lie ball out to Loader, who centred to Brotherton, who beat, Morpeth and scored. The forwards on .both sides made, tho play faster, Wellington holding the advantage, if anything! but the defence of A. Parton and Holmes was sound. Eventually, M'Dougall secured,', and again centred to Dunn, who scored his second goal. The spell ended—Wellington 2, Y.M.C.A. 1. On resuming, the "Wellington forwards played with better combination, and from a scramble in front of tho Y.M.C.A. goal, Dunn scored his third goal. The Y.M.C.A. backs, by hard hitting, carried the play to "Wellington's goal, and, after several attempts, Paul was successful in finding the net" Y.M.C.A. put more vim into their play, and Loader, on tho left-wing, secured, and ran through tho opposing backs, and equalised the score. The "Wellington forwards now woke up, and some, good passing followed. M'Dougall, on tlio right-wing, secured the ball and centred, enabling Dunn to score from an awkward angle. Play was in tho centre of tho field when the whistle sounded. Mr, Grinirod was referee.

KARORI-WESLEY. Wesley were only successful in scoring one goal in this match. Though they wcro on the attack for a good portion of the game, their forwards missed several chances through poor hitting when, in the circle. Karon forwards, on the. other hand, made better use of their opportunities, nnd sucoeeded in scoring fous goals. Mr. G. Carver was referee. VICTORIA COLLEGE-UNITED. Through tho sound defence of tho United backs, Collego were only successful in scaring two goals. Tho United forwards did not show tho samo combination as tho College forwards, though they liar- • rowly missed scoring twice. For tho greater part of the gamo United wcro on ' the defence, Hickson being tho mainstay in saving several attempts at scoring by College. C. Strack scored both' goals for College. Mr. J.
