AFTER EIGHT YEARS,
Peers, assembled for the firsttimosinca tho Easter recess, were the witnesses of I an interesting scene in the House of. Lords, when Lord Kitchener, who was, created a baron in 1898 and a viscount in, 1002, went through the ceremony of tak-( ing tho oath and signing tho roll as a< viscount. ! Among those present were Lord Hal-i dane, Lord Balfour of Burleigh, Lord. Beauchamp, and Lord Liverpool. In his Peer's Tobcs Lord Kitchener -walked up: to tho table accompanied by his sponsors, Lord Morley of Blackburn and Lord Mil., ner. Tho documents were read by ai clerk, and then Lord Kitchener took tho, oath and signed tho roll. Lord Carrbfi-j ton, as Lord Great Chamberlain, and Ad-, miral "Stephenson, "Black Rod," were la; attendance. \l ter signing tho roll Lord Kitchener', was escorted to the Viscounty bench be--, low tho gangway on tho Unionist side,,, and from that place he exchanged swoop-, ing ceremonial bows with the Lord Chan- j cellor on tho woolsack. Then camo aj little procession up the floor to'tho Lord, Chancellor, with whom Lord Kitchener shook hands. He left the Chamber, and returning without his robes took his seat on ono of tho cross-benches (usually regarded as tho non-party scats), whore ho joined M£ conversation with Lord Milner.
