BROOKLYN FIRE BRIGADE.

a Tho annual ball of the Brooklyn Volunteer Firo Brigade, held in Fullford's Hall, last evening, was a most enjoyable, function, and proved in every way a very great success. Members of the Fire Brigade and their guests attended to tho number of between GO and 70. The first toast, proposed at supper by Captain Wright, of tho Wellington Fire Police, was that of "Tho Brooklyn Brigade." Fireman Ficklin briefly responded. Other toasts honoured included: "The Wellington City Council." Councillors G. Frost and .1. Fuller, jun., in responding, thanked tho members of tho brigade for their entertainment, and expressed regret at the fact that the illness of tho Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford) made it impossible for him to bo present. A number of vocal and instrumental items were rendered during the evening, and an excellent programme of animated pictures was shown. Mrs. Barton (ex-councillor of tho city of Glasgow) will be the preacher at the Central Mission service in the King's Theatre on Sunday evening, her subject being, "Robbery and Mockery."- Mr: ,T. W. Poynton will speak at tho Brotherhood meeting in tho Druids' ITnll at 3 o'clock to-morrow afternoon, on "The Gospel of Cleanliness and its Eolation to Disease Germs." The meeting is open to all.
