NOTES AND COMMENTS.

£Bv Olencoe.] Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for the Wellington Racing Club's Winter meeting close witli the secretary, air. A. E. Whyte, on Jlondav June 19, at 9 p.m. * Wilson leaves Auckland for Sydney on Monday next, and it is understood that he will take Silver Bullet and Soultiform with him. Boanerges and Nyland, who have been enjoying a brief spell sinco thp Auckland Racing Club's meeting, will resume work at Awapuni on Monday. W. Young will have the mount on Te Arai in the Hawke's Bay Steeplechase. C. Price has been schooling Matapouree at Awapuni, and tho new candidate for jumping honours is making satisfactory progress at the business. Cullinan, in company with Shoemaker (a big chestnut son of St. Crispin) was sent for a schooling task over five hurdles at Grcenmeadows on Saturday morning. Shoemaker was no good to his comrade, for he soon went astern and finished a long vay in the rear of Mr. Lowry's gelding, who lias improved greatly in his fencing of late. To Puia is spelling at Te Mahanga Station. The handsome daughter of San Fran is being worked by her owner, Mr. D. O'Meara, who has the custody of the thoroughbred stock running on Messrs. Douglas Brothers' estate. A. Oliver, first horseman for the Highden stable, came to Wellington on private business yesterday. He returns to Awapuni to-morrow. The Auckland trainer,- P. Stenning, has disposed of Epsom Lass, and the daughter of Hotchkiss is to go into E. Brough's charge at Hawern. Jockcy Luke Wilson is at present spend-1 ing a holiday in Auckland. Hoanga has been sent from Auckland to Hastings to competo at the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's meeting nest week. His owner, Mr. W. Montgomery, will be preseut at the fixture to see him run. Last week tho Kicearton trainer, D. Moraghan, stated his intention of taking St. A"iden, Dorando, and Wedge to tho Hastings meeting, but, so far, they had not passed through Wellington. The ac- ! ceptanccs will be published to-morrow, and then it will bo seen if tho projected trip is to be carried out. s Gold Battery, who lias been spelling 5 since t'je last winter mooting of the ! Wellington Racing Club, is asain doinj -

strong work at Awapuni, and will make his reappearance at 'the Hastings and Napier meetings. Don Carlos is being n-liooled over the big fences at Awapuni, and is jumping satisfactorily.

Several rx-vacehorw were feeiv out at tho Lrviu hunt on Wednesday last, nnd, amongst tho number were Waitarero, Casto'nt, Katiuo, and Ovorluuid.

Polymorphous is doing well after his recent operation, and his tliront lias now healed. It will, however, bo three or four months before tho bis son of Multiform is put iulo solid work ngniu.

Tho disappointing Mcrriwce horse, Laius. vfho?o owner is now in England, attending the Coronation festivities, line fceen sought after by a West. Coast buyer, but, so far, no business has been done. If Hip horse is not sold, it is intended to spell him till the spring, when he will bo gelded, nnd, later, given another trial.

Ths steeplechase horse 1 , Lovell. is to bo railed to Hastings to-day, and, to-morrow the Hntt contingent—Xavier, Goldbird, and Mon Ami—will go north.

1 ,, . Porter will probably leave Awapuni for Hastings to-day, and his team will include To Arai, YVMtcstono, and Goldomar.

Trainers at Palmerston North speak in high term? of the Jlannwatn Eaciiw Club's caretaker, who has the tracks at Awapuni in capital order considering the rain that has fallen- At the prewnt time both the grass and tho sand track aro in use.

l>. Price is just breaking in a yearling half-brother to Porirua and Sir Frisco. The youngster is by St. Ambrose, and was bred at Highden. On account of the number of horses w.hich he has in work at the present time, Price will be unable to make his usual trij. to Sydney this winter.

Peary, who will carry the all cerise colours of the Hon. -T. D. Ormond in the I-adios' Bracelet at Hastings on Wednesday, is described as a fine big horse that mar, later on, earn distinction over fences. Those who know the gelding in question do not treat fiis New Zealand Cup nomination seriously, and the opinion is held that, if the Karamu stable is to win the cup, it will have to be by the aid of Miscount, as Birkdals is unlikely to stand a preparation, and the remainder—Peary. Kirkby, and Aiimlale—are not of much account. Kirkby is a full-brother to Forni'oy, and. so far, has not sported silk, while Ainsd-nk has only had one run, and that was in the maiden race at the Hawke's Hay Cup meeting, when ho finished out of a place.

"Starter," of the "ilataura Ensign," writes:—"Obsono" pawed Com on Monday en mute for his owner's property at I'rankton, where ho will be indulged in a woll-dererved spell. During the season this horw lias won close on in stakes, Mr. M'Bride has not yet finally decided whether or not to take the, horse to Australia.

Now. that tho Tarauaki Jockey Club has upheld the appeal of I?- Barlow against tho disqualification imposed on him by the Bgmont Itacin? Clnb, it will be interesting' to sec whether the latter 'club is satisfied to let the decision rest there, or whether they will take it to the Racing Conference. ..FIXTURES. June 21 and 22—Hawke's Bay .T.C. Winter Juno 28 and 2D—Napier Park R.C. Winter July G and 7—Oisborr.e R.C. Winter July IS, 13, and 22—Wellington It.C. Win"ter. August 8, 10, nnd 12—Canterbury J.C.'s Grand National.
