Birds of quality are pro.misod from Blenheim and Hastings. Mr. T. G. Underhill, who has been on a holiday trip to Australia, returned home on Wednesday evening. Ee was accompanied by Miss Underhill. , The Carterton Golf Club is arranging to secure the services of a professional coach for the benefit of new followers of the game. The death occurred at Christchurch on Tuesday of Miss Agues M'liae, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John JTBae, of Carterton, after a short illness. Tho funeral took place at Clnreville cemetery on Thursday afternoon. At tho half-yearly meeting of Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., a challenge to a football match was received from the Oroua Lodjre, Palmerston North, and it was decided to snggest that the match be played at Carterton towards the end of August. The election of officers resulted: A.D., Bro. E. Canton; V.A., Bro. W. Abbott; secretary, Bro. H. Hart; treasurer, Bro. W. H. Baillie; T. G., Bro. P. Beid; 0.G., Bro. Mivonzie; A.D.B.'s, Bros. C. Corlett and C. Lee; V.A.B.'s, Bros. B. Eayner and H. Hutcheson; musician, Bro. V. Fairbrnther; auditor, Bro. J. Moncrieff. Bro. M'Kenzie, P.A., was presented with a handsome Past Arch collar, and Bro. R. Canton with a useful watch fob as first pri&e for introducing the most new members during tho year. Bro. W. Abbott received tho second prize, a gold brooch.
