KAURI TIMBER COMPANY.
4, MEETING IN SYDNEY. Bs Telccraph—Pros; Assocmtion-Cowriirbl (Hec. Juno 15, 9.20 p.m.) Melbourne, June 15. At Hie half-yearly meeting of the Kauri Timber Company, the chairman, in declaring a dividend for the half-year at the rate of 8 per. cent, per annum, referred to the statement made at the previous meeting as to the falling-off of profits last year, which he attributes to the company having cut up a large quantity of inferior logs. He thought that in the future, though there would still he some of the same logs to clear up, their influenco on the output would be a diminishing one. The figures for the sis months showed that his anticipations were being realised, and they wero now in a position to keep the mills supplied with a better average •of logs. In anticipation of the exhaustion of the kauri bush in the not very distant future, it had been the policy of the company for some years past to strengthen their interests in other New Zealand timbers, with a view to protracting the life of the company. Tho recent rains in New Zealand had brought down a supply of logs, enabling the company to start some idle mills,. which would keep going for a few months. Business during the past six months had been very active, and there were sufficient orders in hand to lead them to expect a turnover for the year considerably in excess of that of last year.
