CORONATION WEEK HOLIDAYS
ATTITUDE : OP RETAIL DRAPERS. Tho retail drapers of the city held a general meeting last evening to consider the vexed question o£ Coronation holidays. Tho general opinion of thoso present was that it was desirable that "Coronation Day should ho observed as a eeneral holiday by everyone, and that partial observance of two holidays in one week was detrimental to the interests of shopkeepers.
It was pointed out that tho concentration of the 'holiday on one day would result in all classes of shop and factory hands having a holiday, while the observance of different days by several classes of employers would probably mean that a number of employees, who were not working under awards, and who otherwise would navo taken part in processions, or lave been in the ranks of the Territorial?, would have no holiday at all. In view ot tno tact that Government was not observing the Princo of Wales's Birthday as a holiday, the hope was expressed that Cabinet would yet provide a" solution of present difficulties, by requesting that a general holiday be observed on June 22 in honour of the Kiug's Coronation and the Prince of Wales's Birthday It was agreed to defer decision as to wjiat day should bo observed as p holi-lav by the trade until a final reply was reisa,to to tS e d^£sssr^" now bein *
