THE MAYOR'S ILLNESS.

DEPUTY-MAYOR APPOINTED. The Mayor (Mr. T. It. Wilfortl), etift incapacitated by a serious indisposition, was absent when the City Council assembled Inst evening, and Councillor J. Smith, as senior councillor, took the chair. Councillor Smith said he was glad to bo able to announce that Mr. Wilford. was in a fair way to recovery. The speaker hoped scon to see him in the chair again. There was nothing like having u proper head of a Department to conduct the business properly. In concluding, Councillor Smith moved that the council forward a letter to the Mayor expressing a hope that he would soon bo restored to health, and be able once'more, to conduct the business of the city.

Seconding the motion, Councillor R. Fletcher expressed pleasure at knowing that Jlr. Wilford was making a speedy recovery. The Town Clerk (Mr. J. R, Palmer) read a letter from Mrs. Wilford thanking the councillors for their many kind inquiries in regard to Mr. Wilfnrd's health. The. writer greatly appreciated their kindness, and was pleased to be able to report that the Mayor was really improving She hoped that, before lons, _ho would be in his accustomed place again. The motion was carried unanimously. Councillor .T. Smith, on the motion o) Councillor G. Frost, was appointed Deputy-Mayor, and leave of absence fol one month was granted Mr. Wilford,
