Wedding at Palmerston. At All Saints' Church, Palmerston, yesterday afternoon, a pretty wedding took place, when Jliss Elizabeth Alve, daughter of Mrs. Alve, of Rangitane, was married to Mr. Peter Petersen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Petersen, of Pitzherbert. Tho bride, who was given away by her brother, was attended by the Misses Harris, Alve, and Petersen, as bridesmaids. Mr. R. Minnor attended tho bridegroom as best man. A reception was subsequently held at Eawlins's tea roms. Wedding at Masterton. The marriage of Miss Laura Ellen Ralph, second daughter of' Mrs. J. Ralph, ■of AVostport, and Mr. August VictorSwanson, eldest son of Mr. J. A. Swanson, of Jlasterton, was celebrated in the Kurnpuni Methodist Church yesterday. The ceremony was performed by tho Rev. 3. E. Parsons, and the service was choral. Miss Lily Swanson and Miss Eunico Ralph, wore tho bridesmaids, and the bridegroom was attended by Mr. W. .Rigg as best'man, and Mr. C. Andricksen as groomsman. Tho bride was given away_ by her brother, Mr. A.. Ralph, of Martinborough, and as the bridal party left" tho church, .the Wedding March was played by Miss M. Burton. Wedding at Napier. On Wednesday, at St. Paul's Church, Napierj the marriage was celebrated of Miss Ethel Alice Robinson, second daughter of Mr. W. Robin son, of Dunedin, and Mr. Leonard Charles Knock, eldest son of Mr. Charles Knock, of Napier. Tho ceremony was conducted by the Rev. J; A. Asher. The bride was attended by her cousin, Jliss Madeline Hillson, and Miss Daisy Knock, sister of the bridegroom, as bridesmaids. Mr. L. Harvey was the btst man. The Graduates' Supper. An interesting function, lield last night, was the third annual supper'of tho Wellington women graduates, which was given; in the Women Students' Hostel by the 'meriibers of Hi's Hostel' Council" it was served in the largo dining room, 1 the tables' having been most artistically arranged .with yellow, bulbs, lycopodium, •»nd : maidenhair fern, : > yellow and -green being the college colours. ■ There must have been close upon sixty graduates present, and all of them - wore academic costume, the bright colours of the hoods relieving the sombreness of tho dark gowns, tho latter, pofsibly, symbolising tho severity of their studies. Colleges from other parts of New Zealand than. Wellington were represented, and among the graduates were: Dr. Kate Hogg, Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, Dr. PlattsMills, and Dr. Edith Huntley. Tilt- toast of "The King" was proposed by Miss Holmes, and duly honoured. Miss Holmes, also, .proposed..that, of this year's graduates, quite a number of whom were present, and Miss Jenkins, on behalf of the. graduates, replied. Mrs. Low, M.A., proposed that of the University, saying that although she looked upon Canterbury College as he Alma Mator, yet the Victoria College, she felt, was her "mother-in-law," as her husband held an appointment in connection with it. Hiss Tavlor replied. The toast of "The Hostel Council was proposed by Dr. Platts-Mills, and replied to by Mrs. Salmond. The last (oast of all was that of the graduates who had helped in tho arrangements of the evening, and also that of Mrs. Thornton, which was proposed by Dr. Ciunn. At the conclusion of "the supper, a very pleasant time was in the common-room, with music and recitations, those contributing being: Mrs. Ross, Mrs. lieid, Miss Newman, and Miss Ross. Hockey Club Dance. The annual danco in connection , with tho Petone Ladies' Hockey C'lnt was held in tho Drill Hall on Wednesday evening, and was a distinct success,, there .being abont 120 guests present. ■ Jliss Cunlitii was sccretarv, and was assisted by a committee. The* duties of M.C.'s were carried out, by Messrs. Hardham, Miller, and Cunliffe, and tho music was supplied by Mrs. Pollock's orchestra. There were some very beautiful dresses- worn by the guests, amongst whom were: Mrs. Bailey, black chiffon taffeta; Mrs. Mitchell, lavender chiffon taffeta; Mrs. Davis, black velvet; Mrs. Southgate, cream; Mrs! CunlifTo, black ninon; Mrs. August, white satin; Miss Bailey, whito silk dress with tunic of all-over "lace; Miss Brocklebank, white satin; Miss Jackson, white and gold; Jliss Tate, cream satin delaine; Miss Ford, cream and silver; Miss Cunliile, cream silk; Miss Power, dainty pink gown; Jliss Eva Fleet, cream silk crystaline; Jtiss Linohan, blue and gold; Miss R. Maj, white ninon; Jliss Drummond, cream and gold; Miss Davis, cream and silver; Miss Parsonson, whito embroidered robe; Jliss Guthrie, whito muslin; Miss Ryau, palo blue, Lady Superintendent of a Hospital. At a snecial meeting of the Auckland Hospital "and Charitable Aid Board, held on Tuesday evening, Jliss M. H. Griffiths, matron of the Nurses' Club. Dunedin, and a member of tho Army Nursing Service Reserve, was appointed to the position of lady superintendent of the hosS'ital, out "of thirty-three applicants. jss Griffiths has had a wide and varied experience, holding four general, massage, and midwifery certificates. After completing her training in English hospitals she had charge of the women's wards, British Hospital, Paris, and of the men's enteric ward, Eastern Fever Hospital, London. She went out to South Africa in 189G, just after the Jameson raid, and did private nursing there for lii months. She was matron of the Usher Memorial Hospital, Koksstadt, East Griqua'.and, from December, 1893, to tho commencement of the Boer War, when the hor-pital closed down. Sho then volunteered her services e„s an army nurse, and, owing to her previous experience as matron/ was given charge of tho lower barracks, Pic.'lerinaritzburg, Natal, which was then used as the base ho«nital for the columns for the relief of Ladysniilii. olio iiatl nine years' experience in the army nnd came to New Zealand in 1908, establisning the Nurses' Bureau and Residential Club in Dunedin for private nurses. On Monday, at St. Andrew's Church, the marriage was celebrated, by the Rev. Gibson Smith, of Miss Edith Ecclrsfield, youngest daughter of the lato Mr. Kobert Ecclesfield, of Hokitikn, Wcstland, to Mr. Sydney Stuart Brewstcr, of Pukekawa, Waikato, eldest son of the late Mr. Charles Sydney Brcwstcr, of Alcxton Hall, Leicestershire. Mrs. Bristow and her daughters, who sailed for England .1 few weeks ago, have boon visiting Naples and Pompei, aiuoug other places, and are thoroughly enjoying their sight-seeing. Miss Ava Symons, Miss Dobbie, and Mr. Percy Tombs leave on Saturday for Auckland, where they will join the Sheffield Choir. Both M"iss Symons and Miss Dobbie are pupils of Mr. M'Duff, of Hastings. Sir Henry and Lady Ripley, visitors from Shropshire, are at present in Russell, tho chief object of their visit being deep-sea fishing. They leave Auckland on Monday to catch tho North GermanLloyd steamer, Prince Sigismund, en route for London, via Japan and America. Mr. and Mrs. Butcher (Hawke's Bay) arc visiting Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. John Duncan have returned from a visit to Sydney. Mrs. Gerald Doorly, who has been visiting relatives in Wellington, left by the Moeraki for the south yesterday. In tho putting competition, held a.t the Hutt on Wednesday, for prizes given by Mrs. Harris. Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Hayward were the winners. On Monday, at Miramar, a retnrn match will be played, Miramar versus Hutt. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Barton, Wairarapa, havo been visiting Wellington. Miss Lnishlcy, who lias been some months away from New Zealand, visiting China nnd Japan, returned to Wellington on Wednesday. At tho'Kuripuni Methodist Church yesterday Mr. Victor Swnnson was married to Miss Ellen Ralph, daughter of Mrs. Ralph, of Wcstport.
