A HOLIDAY DIFFICULTY.
OBSERVANCE OP CORONATION DAY. Prospects of a way being found out of the trouble that has arisen in connection I with the observance of Coronation Day are not, at the moment, very hopeful. Jn fact, it is tolerably certain that workers in many occupations, Harbour Board employees among them, will work as usual-oil' Coroimlion-.Day,- and mako holiday on tho following day, the- Princs of Wale;' Birthday. Tho Labour Department replied to inquiries yesterday that the Government did . not. intend to take any action in the matter. Tho officials indicated that the trouble did not concorn the Government at all, and that any attempt to arrive at a compromise must 1)d made by the workers and employers affected. . From another source it was gathered that tho Government and Department intend to satisfy themselves with administering existing awards, a'.ul regard it as lying outsido their province to interfere in any way with the operation of these agreements. At the same time it is understood that the authorities would not interfere with any attempt by (ho masters and men 'to arrive at an understanding on their own account.
