THE HOUSE ON THE HILL.
WELLINGTON'S WIBELESS,
An inquiry was made yesterday from tho Secretary of tho Post and Tolegraph Department as to when tho wireless telagraph plant in Wellington would bo available for commercial purposes. The answer was that the present plant was fitted with certain parts which had been made here, but to get tho best results they wero now awaiting Telefunken parts to replace those in use temporarily. These wero expected to arrive from Australia by any boat now, and would be fitted at once on their arrival, when an announcement would be made for the guidance of the general public. Tho sketch plans of tho now wireless station on the Tinakori Hills have beeu qpinpleted, and after being submitted t<i tho Minister in charge for approval, the work in connection with their erection will be commenced forthwith. Tho building will bo a one-storied structure of rubble concrete, to be erected on an extra strong foundation on account of tho exposed position. It will have a frontage of 50 feet by a depth of 20 feet, and will contain a motor-room, an accumulator room, an operating room, bedroom, sitting-room, and kitchen. Tho building will face tho citv and harbour, and will bo erected with the two 165 ft. poles which are to carry the aerial wires. The poles will bo of Oregon pine (in three splice;), strongly bolted together, and the ciuveyor wire will drop from tho aerials directly in the centre into (ho operating room. Tho quarters arc not to be erected with any idea of show. Stability, comfort, and convenience will bo the three chief characteristics of the first wireless station in New Zealand.
