Mr. W'iddon, District Engineer, estimated the damage to tho building at about ,01000. lie further estimated the total damage at between .fSOOO and .£IO,OOO. No one was in the building after 12.43 on Saturday afternoon, and no cause for the outbreak can bo suggested officially.

The premises of Messrs. Easson and Co., adjoining, were insured in tho Loudon and Lancashire Office for .£SOO, and tho machinery in tho Union Officio for ,£3.33.
