EXTENT OP LOSSES,
The premises in "Waterloo Quay, which' were partially destroyed by lire yesterday morning, were owneci c.v the Government, ami, like other Government buildings were uninsured. lliey contained ehielly railwav interlocking apparatus, I ablet instruments, clcctrie light material, telephones, etc., all of which was wholly destroyed. Tt is estimated by the officers in charge of the Electrical Department of the railway (Mr. JI. J. 'Wynne) that t'lio dnmago to the goods stood at between JitiOOO and .C7OOO. II r. T. Fahey, an officer of the Deportment, lost books on electrical matters and rare stamps to tho value of .£'lso.
Mr. W'iddon, District Engineer, estimated the damage to tho building at about ,01000. lie further estimated the total damage at between .fSOOO and .£IO,OOO. No one was in the building after 12.43 on Saturday afternoon, and no cause for the outbreak can bo suggested officially.
The premises of Messrs. Easson and Co., adjoining, were insured in tho Loudon and Lancashire Office for .£SOO, and tho machinery in tho Union Officio for ,£3.33.
