A SHOW DATE QUESTION.

WANGANUI'S DECISION. A matter of interest to various agricultural societies, and many breeders, was dealt with- at a meeting of the AVanjanni Agricultural Association. The Wanganui Show is usually held two weeks after the Jfanawatu Show. This year the association was requested to hold it one week later than the Palmerston North event. At the last committee meeting it was proposed ljy Mr. Harper, and seconded by Mr. Cranstone, that a resolution passed at a previous meeting fixing date of show for November 15 and 1G be rescinded, and that Wanganui Show follow a week after Palmerston North. The secretary read letters received from a large number of the principal breeders, the majority of whom favoured tlio retention of the original dales. Mr. Burnet said that judging by the opinions expressed by the principal exhibitors at the last show, they were practically unanimous in the opinion that the dates as fixed should remain. He was quite sure that the entries would suffer if the dates were altered, Messrs. Sinclair and Soler endorsed the previous speaker's remarks. Mr. Hodges supported the resolution, •which, upon being put to tho meeting, was lost, the meeting deciding that November 15 and 1G were tho most suitable dates for the show, as by holding it on the week previous it -would clash with both Christcliurch and Waikato Shows. GENERAL FARMING NEWS. Mr. Charles Pharazyn's property, known as "Longwood," two miles from Featherston, is for sale. There are 857 acres, all Hat land, and all grassed except 15 acres on which tho native bush has been preserved. The homestead is a fine modern ..building of ...17 roams. Messrs. Barr, Leafy, and Williams, Wellington, will furnish particulars. Speaking at New Plymouth, the Hon. D. Btuldo (Minister for Internal Affairs) said that his experience arid tho experience of most societies which had touched them was that winter shows were not profitable concerns. Exclusive of tho things tabled "for exhibition_ only," the entries at the Taranaki Winter Show, at New Plymouth, total 1053. Last year's total was 753. Chaff is exceptionally dear in Masterton at present, and it is stated that there is every prospect of its reaching still higher prices.—"Wairarapa Daily Times." The heaviest pumpkin on exhibition at. tho Taranaki Winter Show weighs Gslb. Recently 31r. D. Ross wrote resigning his position as member of committee of tho Wanganui Agricultural Society. At the committee's last meeting, on tho motion of Mr. Hodges, seconded bv Mr. Hammond, it was resolved to ask Mr. Eoss to reconsider his decision. Dairymen in tho Masterton district state that the milk supply is very short at present and that cows aro not violdi. ing so much milk as thev were at" this timo last year. Tlio cause' is stated lo be duo to lack of rain early in the season ir consequence of which there is little nourishment in the grass. • LIVE STOCK SALES. Messrs.
