Speaking to a Dominion reporter regarding tiie dairy produce entered for competition at Hamilton the judge, ilr. D. Cuddio (director of the Dairy Division in, ;.the Department of Agriculture) said that he had found the quality of the exhibits to be very satisfactory indeed. Thero were 10 competitors for the Coronation challenge cup, presented by Messrs. Lovell and Christmas, London, for butter suitable for export, and in view of the value of the prize, the most valuable trophy offered for competition among dairy factories of the Dominion, the produce was submitted to a very severe test of itsi keeping qualities, and that explained the fact that' the points were on a. lower scale than in the other classes. The prize-winning exhibits came through the trial very well, but some of the weaker butters lost' points owing to inferior flavour A. condition of the-competition was, that the butter should be taken from tho cool store and kept' at ordinary temperature for 14 days prior to tho show, and in one or two cases there had apparently been a heavy deterioration in quality. Eight factories submitted samples of butter prepared under ordinary conditions for export purposes, and both the flavour and the general quality of the butter showed that the factories had been doing sound work, during the season. The exhibits were uniformly, gopdw.i'Jn tho class for-butter-manufactured'-under the most favourable conditions from selected milk and cream there was very keen competition among tho .15 competitors, and the judges found it impossible to make any distinction among the first four exhibits. In fact, Mr. Cuddie remarked that the butter was in cvjry- resnect so similar that it might havo been the product of a _ single factory. That was a highly' desirable feature, and every encouragement would be given to the various, factories to maintain a uniform stnnd-! ard of excellence, so that their butter would need onlv the one recommendation, that it was of Now Zealand manufacture. The cheese was of satisfactory flavour and make. Tho results were as follow:— BUTTER CHALLENGE CUP. Taieri and Peninsular CC. Capel), 93... 1 Cheltenham (.T. Murray). 921 *. 2 Bunnythorpe (C.
