THE RED CROSS.
ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the AVellington Centre of the St. John Ambulance Association was held yesterday. The main business beforo the meeting was tho consideration of arrangements for the annual meeting of the association, which is to be held 011 Ju:io 2G. His Excellency tho Governor (Lord Islington) is to preside, and as' Lady Islington will also bp in AVellington at that time, the committee decided to invite her Excellency to attend the meeting. The committee discussed the question of holding the annual meeting earlier in the year in future, and decided that tho next annual meeting, and subsequent annual meetings, should be held in tho month of April. It was resolved that it be an instruction to the incoming committee that rules for the guidanco of the meetings be formulated for the Centre. A vote of thanks was accorded Airs. J. P. Luke for her kindly offices in securing for the association, for the use of its district nurse, a set of invalid appliances, the donor of which desirc9 to remain anonymous. Mr. A. Crowe, who has lately returned to New Zealand from abroad, sent n present of great historic interest—a few picces of the original stones at St. John's Gate. One of the pieces is of the period of 1100 A.p., and the other of MOO a.d. The oldest stone is from part of the vaulting rib in the crypt of St. John's Chapel. The interesting relics were received with many expressions of pleasure, and the donor was accordede tho thanks of the committee.
