Hyde and Co., of Masterton, for the furnishings and fittings of the cookery and.scieiiice rooms at' the Pahiatu'a District High School. .' Among the/followers at the "meet" of tho Wairarapa Hunt at Opaki on Thursday were: Mr. E. F. Valfance, on Grey Dawn; Miss' Zona Vnllance, on Daisy Bell; Mrs.-,Tas. Smith; .on Oakley; Mr. F. B. Yallance, on'Ncdra; Mr. W. H. Buick, on Fimtick; Mr. C. J. Bennett, 011 Haututu; Mr. W'. Lett', on Laddie; Mr. G. M'JCay, on Castup; Mr. I?. D. Morison on Weary Bill; Mr. H. Balloon, 011 Frolic; Mr. C. Westmoreland, on Minola; Mr. J.. O'Brien, on -Wildfire; Mr. A. Watson, on Sylvia Maid; Mr. W. Rutteridge, 011 Ngakonui. Afternoon tea: was provided by Mrs. Buick.. .Tho monthly meeting of the Masterton District High.School Committee was held last evening, Mr. A. W. Chapman presiding. The headmaster 'reported that the attendance at. the school had been somewhat reduced by the continuaiico of the measles epidemic. The roll number at tho main school was 673, at the side school 169, and in the secondary classes G5. At the public meeting last night to arrange for the celebration of Coronation Day the following programme was arranged:—Procession of Territorials, band, fire brigades, friendly societies, and citizens to tho old showgrounds; unfurling of the flag; saluting of tho flag by, school children; singing of tho National Anthem by combined choir; addresses by the Mayor and member for the district; selection'by the Battalion Band; .haka or dance by Natives; torchlight procession and concert in the Town Hall in tho evening. Scrgeant-Major M'Christell. of the Defence Forces, was appointed chief marshal. The Prince of Wales Stables had a. narrow escape from destruction by fire last evening. Some benzine, which bad leaked from a taxi-cab, accidentally caught fire, and caused a' great blaze. An alarm was founded on tho fire-bells, but the prompt application of waiter by those on the premises averted a disaster. The taxi-cab' was badlv scorchcd. An enjoyable "social" was given by tho ladies of the Masterton Methodist congregation last.evening, in aid of tho pipe organ fund. There was a very large attendance, and the programme, which was of a unique character, was well received. A feature of the entertainment was the appcaranco of prrformors in anciont' aim modern attire. The contrast between the crinoline and hobble skirt era was very striking. ~ The funeral of the late Mr. William Blinkholme took place at the Masterton Cemetery yesterday. Pastor. F. Swinerd, formerly of Oxford nnd Hedding, is endeavouring to establish a branch 0/ tho Baptist Church in Masterton. A sitting of the Ikaroa Natvvo Land Board was held in Masterton to-dav, when a number of leases were dealt with.
