MAKARA AFFAIRS.
$ COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING. A meeting of the Makara County Council was held yesterday, there being present: Tho chairman (Mr. G. Monk), and Councillors l'\ T. Mooro, H. Enstwocd, J. Haggcrty, S. Bryant, and W 11. Hawkins. Tho condition of the yard at the Porirua Hotel was the subject of unfavourable comment, and it was decided to uraw the attention of. Iht- Otr.ki Licensing Committee to tho matter. Tho council'also decided to make representations in tho proper quarter with regard to the drainage of the Jolmsonvillo Police Station, the inspector's recommendation with reference to the improvement of the same not having been given effect to. . A rate of 3d. in tho was authorised to bo struck over the whole of the rateable property in the Makara County. A recommendation was. received from the Public Works Department, staling that in tho event of tho council proposing to inako application for assistance in the matter of .road and bridge construction works, the Minister in charge would be glad to have such application as scon as possible. The details of the works required to bo done, should, it was suggested, bo itemised, in order of ur-encv, the list excluding works which were purely ' maintenance."
