A meeting of the Wellington Fox Terrier Club was held on Wednesday evening at Messrs. Hawthorn and Horn's rooms in Panama Street. Tho main business of the evening was tho judging of fox terrier puppies for tho Miniature Silver Cup. There were three entries: Mrs. Winters Tiko (smooth dog), Mr. H. Muir's Ayrshire Peggy (smooth bitch), and Miss R. Mills's Poneke Shifter (wirehaired bitch). Tho first-mentioned was tho winner. Tho puppies were judged by Mr. J. Philpot. At the conclusion of fhc meeting, thoso members of tho New Zealand Fox Terrier Club who wero present decided not to support the Napier Club's request that the prizes allocated by the club to the Dunedin show bo transferred to tho Napier show. WELLINGTON KENNEL' CLUB. A meeting of the committee of the Wellington Kennel Club was ' held in tho Albert Hotel on Thursday evening. A 'subcommittee was appointed to go into the question of new benching, and general - business was dealt with. ' Judging by the way things are going on, the forthcoming show, to be held on August 23 and 2i, promises to be a record one. HAWKE'S BAY SHOW. The Hawke's Bay Kennel Club advertises below the dates of their annual show, viz.—July 12 and 13. Entries will closo on Juno 27. Thero is every indication of this show being a good one. Any information will be supplied by Mr. S. P. Spillcr, box 152, Napier.' THE BULLDOG. Tho following is the second section of the standard issued by tho Bulldog Club of Great Britain:— (13) The tail should be set on loir, jut out rather straight, and then turn downwards, the end pointing horizontally. It should be quite round in its own length, smooth, and devoid of fringe, or coarse low hair. It should be moderate in length—rather short than long—thick at tho root, and tapering quickly to a fine point. It should have a downward carriage (not having a decided upward curve at the end, or being screwed or deformed), and the dog should, from its shape, not be able to raise it over its back. (11) The forelegs should be very stout and strong, set wide apart, thick, muscular, and straight, with well-developed calves, . presenting a rather bowed outline, but the bones of the legs should bo large and straight, not bandy or curved. They should' bo rather short in proportion to the hind legs, but not'so short as to make the back appear long, or detract from tho dog's activity, and so cripple him. The elbows should be low, and stand well away from the ribs. The ankles, or pasterns, should be short, straight, / and strong.' The forefeet should be straight, and turn very slightly outward, of medium size, and moderately round. The toes compact and thick, being well split up, making tho knuckles prominent and high. NOTES. Mr. J. G. Wilson has just got a litter of bull terrier pups by Silent ReynardSilent Vixen. They number seven ! iu all— four clogs and three bitches. Dusky Queen whelped a black dog on May 30, by Mr.-.Rogers's champion dog. Mr. Bernasconi has recently purchased a first-class setter dog from Melbourne, from which he expects great things. Mr. J. Doherty has recently strengthened his kennels by purchasing Mr. D. • Ward's Punter Prince. Mr. P. H. Smith's ch. pointer bitch, Bylands Spray, has just paid a stud visit to Mr. W. H. Siinmons's dog, Ch. Hampden Shot, and is at present at tho Kura Kennels, Khandallah. Both dogs are being shot over this season, and in the field they demonstrate fully the careful training and time that has been devoted to their education. :
