A FALL OF THIETY FEET. A serious accident, befell a young man, nanied Dugald. M'Girr, at Messrs. Phelps, Wilson'mid Co.'s warehouse in Harboui Street yesterday afternoon. The lift dooi was open at Hie time, and the young mar possibly imagined that the lift itself wa; level with the floor which ho was on, bul it happened to bo a floor higher, and when he stepped through the door, he feli to the bottom of the lift well—a distanct of about thirty feet. No one witnessed the accident, but when the young mat was discovered a few minutes- later, Dγ Henry was summoned, and arrived shortlj after. .-The doctor found that no bone: had been broken, but there were injuries to the back, and the patient was remover home in an atubulanco by his father. A fortunate circumstance in connectior with the accident/was the fact that ther< were about 3 feet of shavings'at the bottom of the lift well, and this, no doubt prevented the accident from being attended with inore serious results. INQUEST-POIUEUA PATIENT. : An ihtjuest Was held at the Morgue al 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon by the Coroner, Mr. \V. G. Eiddell, S.M., touching the demise of Herbert Hunter, whc died at his sister's residence, Kilbirnie yesterday morning. Dr. Fyffe, who had made a post-niorten , examination, stated; that the cause ol death was pneumonia, secondary to paralysis. There were no signs of violence Dr.' B. A. Dβ- Lautour, 'of Kilbirnie stated that he had been'called to attend deceased, at.7.15 yesterday- morning.' Wher he arrived (about a quarter of an how later) deceased had just expired. He had previously attended him in April, and Jiad found him' suffering from disease oi the brain. He had'advised his removal tc the hospital, with., a. view to committal to a mental.hospital. Mrs. Edith Morris, sister of deceased, stated that her brother was a' labourer by occupation, and was about 29, years of age. He> had been' committed to th« Porirua: Mental Hospital some time in ApriiJ 'From information received from the Mental Hospital she gathered that her brother was, in, a'very.low. condition, and received permission on Sunday- from the authorities ,to remove him to her residence.nt Kilbirnie, whero he died yesterday morning. The Coroner's verdict was that deceased died' at Kilbirnie on June 6, of pneumonia, 1 secondary to paralysis. KNOCKED DOWN BY A CAE. Kongo Tanblyn, 13 years of age, residingin E-olleston Street, was knocked down by e, tramcar in. Vivian Street yesterday morning and sustained a scalp wound. He was attended to at the Wellington Hospital, and was afterwards ablo to leave for his home. DEATH INSTANTANEOUS. (By Telegraph.—Press -'Association.) Auckland, June ,6.
