Uclli-iiißpr, savs that no such oiler was ever received by the directors, but he bslicyod (hat it was stated-to one of the directors by a person niiiliing overtures that there was a possibility of the syndicate paying JcUOfiW, lhe directors refused, as in Mr. Henry's case, to negotiate unless a substantial deposit were forthcoming and llicfo terms -were refused, the statement being made to the directors that no one wae likely to pay a deposit in such a caw. i>l r. Henry .however, after reporting on ic held to his principals in London, paid this deposit, and the sale is to be completed by November 30 next. DUNLOP CYCLE SERIES. Christchurch, June 4. The final event of a series of Dunlop road races was run off this afternoon under tho auspices of the Chrisfchurcli Cycling and Jiotor Club over a course of 51) miles from tho Coach Corner to Dariield and back. DUNEDIN LICENSING-REFUSALS. Duncdin, Juue 5. At' the annual meeting of the Dunedjil Licensing Committee to-day applications for renewal of bottle licenses were refused. An application for the. removal of tho license of the Criterion Hotel'to (lie Coffee Palaco was refused. Applications for t'ho renewal of licenses of tho Criterion, Farmers' Arms, and Law Courts Hotels* were, adjourned to a future meeting pending repairs and other works. Mr. Watson, licensee of the Commercial Hotel, was cautioned for allowing bookmakers to frequent his premises. Applications for wholesale licenses by former holders of bottle licenses were struck out All wholesale licenses wore renewed.

I RUMOUR ON WINGS. Grcymouth, .Tune. 5. A sensational report reached Greymouth' this morning, that an explosion had caused thirty miners to bo entombed at Blackball. The rumour was false, but a slight fall of coal occurred, causing a stampede of all hands, who successfully iised Iho safety passages provided. FIRE-STABLES AND HORSES, Nelson, June ,5. At 1.30 this morning tho stables and coach-houso of l'\ Haaso, cab proprietor, Hampden Street, were destroyed by fire, four horses being burn!. Tho cabs were removed, but wore, more or less damaged.
