The balance-sheet presented at the Farmers' Union Conference in Hawke's Bay showed that 'the Provincial branch commenced the year with a credit of ,£59,Ss. 5d., and wound .up with a.credit of .£io Us. Space for the Dominion Dairy Shoir. to be held in Hawera on July 5, G, 7 and S, is being rapidly secured. Several firms who exhibited last year have doubled their space. ... The annual meeting.of the North Taranaki Ploughing Association was held at Waitara. 'This balance-sheet showed receipts as ,£39 135., inclusive of subscriptions and donations MSS 35., entries £3 165., sheep-guessing £2 12s. -The total expenditure was <£33 7s. 3d., thus leaving a ■ credit balance oi £6 ss. 9d. The appointment of officers was made as follows:— Patron, Mr. W. T. Jennings. M.P.; president, Mr. W. Birdling; vice-presidenty, Messrs. W. F. Jenkins, James flattenburv, and Alex. Giddy. .The ploughing match, this year will bo held on July 27, and it was "decided to include several jumping events, ons to be an opou event and the other for maiden horses and riders. \ huge lamb was the other day (says the Hawera "Star") killed by Mr. Joseph Vincent, of Waverley. The lamb had been shorn tn-icp, namely, at last shearing time aud just before being; killed. The second fleece weighed no less than 121b., and tho (lend weight of the beast after being dress;d was 1721b. •At the annual meeting of the PolianginaKomako branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union the balance-sheet for-the . past- twelve months, which shows a credit i balance of £2 Vis. 10d:, was adopted. Mr. H. -W. Smart, of iS'gaputahi, was rcelecicd chairman. Mr. D. Howie was appointed delegate fsr the branch to attend the Wellington Provincial Conference. At a meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society, the urgent need for a veterinary surgeon in the district was discussed, and it was stated that there was a very .able mail .whoso services it might be possible to secure. Tho matter was taken tip warmly by the members,' and it was resolved that a meeting be called at. nn early date to thoroughly discuss ways and means.— "Herald."" . , ■ ■ During the recent floods in Hawke's Bay one of the settlers at Elsthflrpe through whose section the creek flows lost about it) sheep and a cow, which got bogged against a fence that was covered over with silt. ' ■ ■ It- is expected that Mr. Cuddie, ■ Chief of tlio Dairy Division, will give a lecture under the auspices of the Kketahuita branch of tho Farmers' Union at an early date, on the subject of cow-testing. - The Ashburton Co-operative Dairy Factory Company has received account sales from London of tho first three shipments of butter from Ashburton, which were-con signed in December last. The returns are highly satisfactory, and the consignments hare realised close on «£.')l)0 above the advances made, reports a Southern paper. The Balfour correspondent of the Southland "Times" kivs that this year ■ tho farmers' balance- should be on the right side. It has been a good year in many ways. It was a very dry summer; but (he says) these dry summers have been the making of Southland, though lots of people don't think so. There has been a want of water in many places, but there has also been a lack of sourness iii places which are usually o detrimpn'ally affected in this way. So'these dry, sunny reasons are benefiting the province. CLYDESDALE HORSE SOCIETY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dunedin,.JuTie 1. A meeting .of those interested in. the formation of. a Clydesdale Horse Society for Now Zealand was held in the office of the A. and P. Society this evening. After discussion the meeting affirmed the desirability of forming such ii society on the sumo lines ;is the Clydesdale Horse Society of Great Britain and Ireland. .Another meeting will be held at tho winter show lime, in August, when a representative body of breeders will be in Dunedin.
