« CHRISTCHURCH DEPUTATION. (By TeletraDh.-Pross Association.) , , Christchurch, Mav 27 A deputation representing the 'South Island Bands Association, wailed on the -Mayor (Mr. T. K Taylor) relative to the band contest which is to bo held in this city in November next, and asked for his sympathetic interest in the contest I hey also asked if he would use his in! iluenco to enlist sympathy of members of tho City Council to ensure the success of tho fixture, 'i'ho contest would last about a week, and the deputation wished the Mayor and City Council to interest themselves in tho matter, and call ~n meeting at-which, a contest committee would bo appointed. The Mayor expressed his own personal sympathy with the proposal, and promised to bring tho matter beforo the council at its meeting on Monday ovening. Ho believed that the council would give tho. project its cordial support, and would endorse tho suggestion that an invitation should bo extended to the association to hold its contest in Christchurch.
