An immense crowd was present in (he vicinity of the aerodrome, and tho disaster was witnessed by tho aviator's wife and two children. DISASTER IN ST. PETERSBURG. AVIATOR FAILS TO SLOW DOWN. St. Petersburg, May 2S. An English aviator named V. Smith fell from a height of 150 feet, and was killed, on the opening day of Aviation WeeK. Smith's bride witnessed tho catastrophe. (Rec. May 29, 9.30 p.m.) St. Petersburg, May 29. Mr. Smith, in descending, omitted to slow down tho 75 horse-power motor of his aeroplane. His body was completely buried in the soft soil when ho fell. PARIS-ROME RACE. COMPETITORS REACH AVIGNON. (Rec. May 29, 10.30 p.m.) Paris, May 29. Thirteen aviators started on Sunday in the Paris-Home-Turin race, the prizes for which aggregate .£12,000. Two of the competitors, Lieutenant Conneau and M. Garros, reached Avignon, in the South of France, within an hour of each other.
