MOTORMAN'S FATAL, ERROR.
(By Tolesraph—Pre°3 Association.) Auckland, May 29. In the Supremo Court Mr. Justice Edwards passed .sentence on William Ernest Dav.c, inotoru'.nii, who was found guilty at last sessions of manslaughter of a fellowmotonnan by the bumping of one tram into another. His Honour said the fact that earlier in the evening the prisoner had a shock through narrowly missing a drunken man should have made him more cautious. The plea that his attention wa.-: distracted by the constant ringing of tho bell was no excuse for inattention to what was in front. Ho was inclined to think the accident was the result of a miscalculation of the speed of the car, and getting too close to the standing car ahead. Taking into consideration prisoner's good character, and tho jury's recommendation to mercy, and tho views of the Judges of tho Appeal Court, prisoner would bo leniently dealt with. A fine of J!25 .was imposed.
