THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION.
SOME CANDIDATES. Mr. E. Fletcher, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Hoard and a member of the City Council, has decided to contest tho Wellington Central seat at the next general election. It is understood that Mr. W. H. P. Barber, e.v-M.P., will bo tho Government candidate for Wellington South. A requisition is being signed asking Mr. J. A. Macpherson, ex-M.P. for Mount Ida, to contest the Waitnki seat against Sir W. J. Steward. Should tho fears of some pessimists be realised hy the wiping out of Waitnki, Mr. Macphersoii will be asked to contest the Onmtiru seat. Mr. Macpherson will bo a certain starter for Waitaki, where (says tho "Otago Daily Times") ho should poll heavily, as there is a largo area of the old Mount Ida seat in tho present Waitaki electorate.
