Word has been received by cable message that Dr. O. B. Townshend, D.D.S., Philadelphia, lias successfully passed his examination at Guy's Hospital, London, as Jj.D.S., London. He will return, to New Zealand at an early date'." "Dr." Townshend is brother-in-law to Mr. G. T. Hall, of Levin and Co., Ltd.

Dr. Douglas Mawson was a passenger for Australia by the It.M.S. India, leaving London on Friday, May 19. Dr. Maweon delayed his departure to discuss his Antarctic expedition with Mr. Fisher, the Commonwealth Premier, who expressed great satisfaction on hearing of the progress Dr. Mawson had made in his arrangements and in securing funds.

Dr. Solf, according to the German press, has not tendered his resignation as Governor of Samoa in order to enter Parliamentary life. Since his arrival in Germany Dr. Solf has been wording at the Colonial Office, and tho date of his return to Samoa has not yet been decided upon.

Mr. H. D. Coutts, Government Land Valuer in tho Wairarapa, and formerly of Taranaki, is being transferred to the Manawatn district, with headquarters at Palmcrston North. His place in the Wairarapa. will bo taken by Mr. Fowler, at present Government Land Valuer in tho Taihape district.
