ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DEATH OF FEMALE PEISONER. On Saturday afternoon, at the Wellington Hospital, the coroner (Dr. A. M'Arthur) held an inquiry into the circumstances connected with the death of Catherine Thatcher. Sergeant Mathieson represented the police. The evidence tendered was to the. effect that deceased w about 50 years, of age, and, on May 1, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment for vagrancy. After entering the Terrace Gaol she Complained of; feeling unwell, and was medically attended, and kept on light work. 08 Thursday last she was removed to the hospital, where she died on Saturday morning. Dr. Hardwick Smith, who made a postmortem examination, stated that death was dun to heart disease, and a verdict was returned accordingly. THE BACK-BLOCKS ONCE MORE. At the inquest on Percy Simmons, drover, who died whilst being brought to town from tho back-blocks for medical attention, a. vordiet of death fi'em natural causes was returned.
