TRAM CONCESSIONS.

AN ALL-ROUTES TICKET. Councillor J. Fuller, jun., intends to move lit the next meeting of the City Council:— "That the present system of concession tickets (other thnn workers') from the various termini be reconsidered by the Tramways Committee with a view of issuing in lieu thereof a card ticket similar to tho one in u.=e at the present, but with a provision for sixteen rides for )*., instead of byelve. Such cards will obviously be available on all sections." Councillor l'ullcr desires to abolish the present preferential treatment in the city tramways. Ho proposes that the concession tickets now issued on particular routes should bo withdrawn and replaced by cards entitling the holder to travel over sixteen sections at a co-t of one shilling. The new cards would be sold on all cars as are the present one shilling cards and similarly punched oft' iu sections, but tho ride over each section would cost 3d. instead of Id. Councillor Fuller has worked out the following table which gives a comparison between the proposed system of concessions and that now in vogue:— Island Hay and Courtenay PlaceThree sections, 297 chains, 3d.; concession ticket, 2s. 3d.; cost per ride by present concession ticket, 2Jd.; cost by proposed new system, 21(1. Luxford Street nnd Courtenay Place.— Two sections, IG7 chains, 2d.; Is. Gd.; lid. present system; ljd. proposed. Island Bay and Lambton Station.—Four sections, 418 chains; 4d.; 2s. 9d.; 3|d. present system, 3d. proposed. Tinakori Road and Kelburne tram.— One nnd a half sections, 151 chains; 2d. and ljd.; Is. Cd.; ljd. present system) ltd. proposed. Thorndon Quay and Kelburne tram.— One and a half sections, 107 chains; 2d.; Is. Cd.; lid. present system, ljd. proposed. Aro Street and Kelburne tram.—One and a half sections, 110 chains; 2d.; Is. 6d.; ljd. present system, lid. proposed. Brooklyn and Manners Street.—One and a half sections, 133 chains; ljd.; Is. Cd.; ljd. present, lid. proposed. City boundary to Government Station. —Three sections, 354 chains; 3d.; 2s. Cd.; 2Jd. present, 2}d. proposed. Kilbifnio and Courfcensy Place.—One and a half sections, 176 chains; lid.; Is. Gd.; ljd. present, lid. 'proposed. Austin Street and Government Station. -One and a half flections, 166 chains; lid.; Is. 6d.; lid. present, ljd. proposed. Lyall Bay and Government Station.— Three sections, 351 chains; 3d.; 2s. 6d.; 2Jd. present, 2Jd. proposed. Oriental Bay and Cuba Street junction. Two sections, 115 chains; 2d.; Is. 6d.; ljd. present, ljd. proposed. The net difference between the all-round cost is id. reduction on previous concessions. Is. lOd. as against Is. 9Jd. A system resembling that proposed has lately been inaugurated on the municipal trams at Dunedin. In reply to a question addressed to Councillor 'Least, chairman of the Dunedin Tramway Committee, as to the working of the concession system in that centre, Councillor Fuller has received the following telegram: "Concession only recently started available over all sections; my opinion will prove thorough success.—Least."
