The work of renewing the Btcrnpost and frame, and reinstating tho massive rudder-post have involved a big forging job. LAUDERDALE DUE. At 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon- the Maorllnnd Stcamsliin Company's nsw steamer Lauderdale left New Plymouth for Wellington. The vessel, which is expected hero this morninc, is to go on the Patent Slip as soon n-s convenient. Her subsequent movements nave not been arranged. CnARTS-THE TRUTH DAWNING. That an exhaustive and complete survey of the New Zealand coast-line, especially the North Island, is needed, is borne out by a report scut to the Marino Department by Captain Bollons, of the Government steamer Iliucmoa. No further attempt to Tcaeh Gisborne was made until about midnight on Sunday, when, on. the weather-becomina less violent, she, finally left tho bay.

In lieu of calling at Nelson, the Alexander, which leaves Wellington to-day for Westport and Greymouth. will proceed to those ports direct, but the Waverley, leaving. hero on Friday for the We&t Coast, will call in at Nelson. The barquciilino Laura, which has been recopporod at Melbourne, is to proceed to Newcastle and load a cargo of coal for Auckland, after which cho will load timber at Auckland and tho Great Barrier for Sydney. The barquontine Lima is at present loading coal at Newcactlo for Sydney. Tho barquciilino Eio left Port. Stephens on Wednesday, May 17, for Dnnedin with a cargo of hardwood. Upon discharee of same she will proceed to Kaipara to load kauri for Sydney.
