There was a poor demand for store cattle, and Rood dairy cows eoid well.
The yarding ot etoTC sheep, was somewhat lancer than ia.--t weak; lambs forming the larger part, the balance heme mostly ewes, witn a f';w ncps of wethers. Ewes and wctlnrs cold at late rates, and there was a better demand for ewe lambs, but, in the absenco of South Canterbury, buyers, other lambs did not sell write.so well as last week. Ewes nold up to 14: i. for 2-tootlis, Bs. Cd. to lis. 9d. tor sound mouth, 6s. (id. to Bs. 3d. for full and tailing mouth, and 4s. to ss. 6cl. lor broken months. 'I'hi best of an entry of medium wethers maao Us. to 125., others 9s. 3d, Small haifbrcdis, to 10s. lud„ and merinos 4s. 9d. Ewe lambs made 9s. 6d. to 10s'.: mixed coxes, 7s. to Bs. 6d.i and small sorts. 3s. Cd. to bs. 4d.
The entry of fat lambs totalled 6184. or loss than 100 more than la?, week. Thcra was good competition all through tho sale, the quality aaowiUE an improvement on late yardings. Kxnort buyers were keen to operate, and too.t 5894 out of the total at ririecs rangin- from 7s. 3d. to 18s. 9d. Butchers took 2u3 at llis. to 155., oxtra to "6. 2d. A line of C 4 went 10 p. grazier at llsi 3d., and only 23 wcro passed in. Tho yardir.s of &l nhoap wa3 a very large one, ;md the avcraco Quality showed a little improvement on last week. Thero was good competition for all clashes, and prices were firm right throuehout tho salo. The range of prices was: Prime welters. 17s. to 21s. fd.; others, 14s. 6d. to 16s. Gd.i merino wethers, 14s. 3d.: nrimo ewes, 14s. to 17-:. 6d.; medium, lis. to 13s. 6d,; need and HeIU, 7g. 9d. to 10s. 6d.
There were 431 head of fat cattle penned, including a. number of lines ot very prime quality. In cor.sequonco of tho large yarding there was a, weaker demand, and prices declined about Is. 6d. nor 1001b. Stoeru made £7 17s. lid. 1.0 £11, extra to £15; heifors. £5 17s. 6(1. to £10 10s., aaid cows £5 to £10 17s. 6d., eoual to 245. "to 275. 6d. for prime, 21a. to 235. 6d. for medium, a.nd 193. 6d. to 20s. 6d. for cow and iraforior nor ICOlb.
Veal calves made 4s, 6d. to 605., and exlarge to £4.
A'line of 28 North Island bullocks made £11 15s. to £12 10s.
A small yardtei; of s-tore cattle met with a, dull oalo, yeavlinss niakiag 15?. to Ms. 6d., 15 to 13-ni on Uia 515., 2-year heiferis £3 13s. Id., and dry cows 255. to £3 15s. Dairy cows brought £4 to £9 10s.
I'ies of all daises formed good entries, and there was an improved d?mand • for fats, resultin<? in a brisker sale. Olionpcrs sold tin to 80s.; heavy baconers, 60s. to 665. j and lighter, 38s. to <?s. Gd. (canal to 4d. per lb.); laruo porkers, 325. 6d. tc 37i;„ and smaller, 25: i. to 30s. (equal to 41d.: per lb.). There was a smaller entry of store pißfi, and medium-sized sorts &jld better, prices being 10s. to 195., while smaller pins were not m much ricmasd, ehaimins handß at Ss. to 14s„ and woauei'E Bold at Is. to 4s. 6d.
BUHNSIDB MARKET. (By Tclcuraph-Press Association.) Dunedin, May 24. At Burasido to-day there was a small yarding of, fat cattle, 151 being penned. There .were very few prime bullocks for.ward, but prices on the whole were the Bamo as last week's. Best bullocks, £10 10s. to £12 fe.; medium,-£8 15s; to £9 10b.: inferior, £7 to £7' 15s.
Fat sheep: 3934 penned (a law yardinc). The quality, taken all over, war, fair, with a lew pens of extra prime wethers. Prices showed an advance of fully Is. per head on laft week's rates. Best wethers, .ffl'j. 3d.; medium. 17c. to 18s. Crt.j others, 15s. to 10s. 6d.; best, ewes. 16s. 3d. to 165.6 d.: extra, 2Cr..; medium, lis. 6d. to lis. 9d. Fat lambs: There was a largo yardinnr of medium duality, 2772- btmig penned. Competition was nut Quite :o keen as, last week, ami prices were barely maintained. Best, 14s. 6d. to 16s. 3d.: medium, lis. to 12s. 6d.; inferior, 9s. to ICs. 6d. Messrs.- Ualsety and Co., Ltd., report on their usual weekly rale at Solway as follows—All advertised lines came forward in ■ both cattle and sheen.. and they report practically a total clearance. The yarding, of r-heep was principally lambs and wethers, but prices wero not up to lato rates, and vendors, in a number of instances, aad'to lower their, reserves to enable sales to be made.
