New Sylvia. 2s. lid. Union Steam, £2 Is. KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL. . —■>■- - LARGELY TRAMWAYS. The ordinary meeting of the Karori Borough Council, held last evening, was attended "By tho Mayor (Mr. C. Cathie) and Councillors W. T. Hildreth, Frost, Standen, Burn, Bradnock, Nimmo, Anderson, Horn, and Hamilton. Tho city tramway engineer and manager wrote- proposing that the 3d. and 2Jtl. tickets be available between . Johnston Street and the Kelburnc Avenue and the Karori Tunnel and the Kclburne Avcnua respectively. With the opening of the extension to Karori Park, the number of tickets ventured to be handled on cars on tho Newtown to Karori run had been increased to such nn extent that the conductors were now hampered in the'collection of fares at times of heavy loading. No hardship would be imposed on Karori residents by this' alteration, as the Is. Gd. concession tickets were available from the Botanical Gardens to the Kelburno Avenue.

It was decided to accede to tho request of the city tramway engineer. Tho .possibility of rearranging the tramway service so as to make it more convenient was briefly discussed. Eventually 15 "m s dccille(l to refer the matter to the tramways Committee. Tho Tramways Committee recommended that signal lights be provided' on the tramway at Dix's corner (at a cost of «ESO) as. recommended by the city electrical engineer.

. the Mayor said that these lights were intended to guard against tho possibility 01 n car running past a loop and coming into collision with another at one of the bends, two slight accidents had nlready oecurred. Providing the lights might prevent, the occurrence of more . serious accidents in future. .

On the motion of Councillor Standen tho Mayor, and Councillors Hildreth Nimimy Hamilton, and the mover, were" appointed a committee to go into the matter of a shorter route to Karori, and report at next meeting.
